Well, I think I did it! I ran over 70 km last week, and it’s not worse this week! In fact, I think it’s a bit better. Finally, some light is shining at the end of that long tunnel! It IS possible to overcome achilles injuries.
I have been getting ultra sound treatment now for a few weeks, and I’ve been stretching the calf muscle several times per day. Persistence seems to pay off.
I still have a sore spot on the achilles tendon, but it’s only sore if I push on the tendon from the side. I can run with no problems. I have to admit I’ve changed my running style a bit. I normally run a bit on my forefoot, but since that puts more stress on the achilles and calves, I’ve been running more on the heel, so to speak. Landing each stride further back on foot, you could say.
My plan is now to stick to running 6 days per week or so, and gradually build up my mileage. I don’t want to start doing any speed work until the discomfort in the achilles/calf is 100% gone. Luckily, I don’t think I’m too far away from this becoming reality.
